SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY Jeff Hines was driving on the back roads of Southampton County about a year ago when a historical highway marker about slave revolt leader Nat Turner got him thinking about another historic figure believed to be from the county. Dred Scott – the slave who took his fight for freedom all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
