Ways to apply for a job?

Ok, so I will be turning 16 in about a week, and there are two things that are first on my list; drivers ed, and….getting a job. So I have a few places in mind, a sports store chain, and a grocery store in town, those seem like that best. My only problem is how should I go up and ask them for a spot? I guess I’m looking for phrases that I can use, for example, “I would like to apply for a job” I just don’t know if that sounds good. Please someone give me some advice.. Thanks Steve

That sounds fine. Or you could ask, “May I fill out a job application?”
